June 13, 2016: It’s Monday, What Are You Reading?

It’s Monday, What Are You Reading? is a weekly meme currently hosted by The Book Date. It’s a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week, and add to that ever-growing TBR stack.

Another whirlwind week has passed, another whirlwind week has begun. It. is. WILD. Adulting. Is. NOT. FUN.

I attended the Printer’s Row Lit Fest this past weekend, with my friends from book club. It’s the annual weekend local fest hosted by the Chicago Tribune. I didn’t buy a lot of books, but I did manage to attend some cool panels and see some very cool people- Marilynne Robinson, Rebecca Traister, Lindy West, Sarah MacLean, and Buzz Aldrin. This was my first time and I had such a good time. It was nice to support local press and literary folk.

Onto reading. If you haven’t caught on yet, I’ve been on a pretty steady state of overwhelm for a while now. So I can’t really tell if my life has so much going on, or if this is just all the covert verbal dialogue I’m having with myself about how I have so much to do. Based on all my commitments for this week, I’m sticking to finish these two books by Thursday, so that I can talk about them at Read Harder meet-up that evening.

This will undoubtedly be one of my favorite books of this year. I can tell because I’m taking it slowly so that it doesn’t end and at the same time find it hard to put it down. It is GORGEOUS.

I was very, very hesitant to pick up this book, simply because I really didn’t want to read about rich, white, privileged people and their whiny-ass problems. However, my library hold finally came through, and based on the reviews of bloggers I trust (y’all know who you are), I started listening to it. I’m still wary, but the story is interesting and the writing is good so far.

 reviewathon

Also, this week, the fabulous and most badass Andi is hosting Reviewathon! She’s a blogging beast so I don’t doubt that she will churn out several, but I am committing to put up at least 2 by Friday. Wish me luck!

I, um, also did the thing where I started watching Game of Thrones last night because what’s life without a little whimsy?

    1. You are a responsible blogger, and one day I hope to be like you. But right now, I will shamelessly abandon responsibilities to read books I’m excited for. Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

  1. HUG sorry you are having such an overwhelming week! I hope it gets better soon, and at least you have Homegoing to keep you company. I hear nothing but raves about that book. I’m hoping I can read it while I’m on vacation soon, but it all depends on my library’s cooperation. :p

  2. Printer’s Row Lit Fest sounds awesome!

I loved The Nest ( I love a well-written family saga) and I have Homegoing on my TBR for sure. Right now I’m about to finish The Vegetarian by Han Kang and whooooo-boy! My head is kind of spinning.
